Overview:
Maintain service operations by inspecting and maintaining Penn College’s vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications: Education: -Formal mechanical training or education, OR, three (3) years on-the-job mechanical experience.
(Minimum) -High school diploma or equivalent.
(Desired) -ASE certification: brakes, electrical systems, heating, air conditioning, engine performance.
(Desired) Experience: -Five (5) years of recent experience performing the functions of a vehicle/equipment service technician.
(Minimum) -Collision repair experience.
(Desired) Abilities and Skills: -Possession of a current Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Vehicle Inspection and Emissions Licenses.
(Minimum) -Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Commercial Driver’s License; Class A or ability to attain.
(Desired) -Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge, expertise and certification in the trade area.
(Minimum) -Welding and fabricating skills.
(Minimum) -Ability to perform small engine, power tool repair and maintenance.
(Minimum) -Must have training and/or certification in forklift operation or become trained/certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities.
(Minimum) Responsibilities: -Keep vehicles and equipment available for use by inspecting and testing; completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing and replacing filters.
(Essential) -Maintain vehicle and equipment functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage.
(Essential) -Perform Pennsylvania Department of Transportation vehicle inspections.
(Essential) -Verify vehicle and equipment serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
(Essential) -Comply with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
(Essential) -Perform minor maintenance on automatic transmissions.
(Essential) -Replace/repair vehicle brake systems as needed.
(Essential) -Repair and overhaul gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment; tune up, locate malfunctioning parts, disassemble, inspect, replace/rebuild/adjust and reassemble as needed (e.

exhaust systems, brakes, universal joints, carburetor, starter, generator, standard transmission clutches, motor overhaul, hydraulic hoses and cylinders, etc.
) (Essential) -Schedule vehicle and equipment repairs and detailing with local service shops as needed.
(Essential) -Communicate with the Manager on vehicle and equipment needs for service and budget development.
(Essential) -Repair and maintain small engine equipment and power tools.
(Essential) -Clean vehicle interiors and exteriors in compliance with Penn College standards.
(Essential) -Assist Manager in writing specifications for new vehicles and equipment.
(Essential) -Respond to service calls concerning College vehicles and Grounds equipment.
(Essential) -Fabricate equipment parts to fit the needs of the Motor pool/Grounds division.
(Essential) -Provide support to the Penn College Grounds Division.
(Essential) -Operate snowplow and salt truck to remove ice and snow from roads and assigned areas.
(Essential) -Pick up and deliver equipment and parts as requested.
(Essential) -Maintain vehicle/equipment records and inventory through an asset management program.
(Essential) -Possess interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, faculty, staff and the public.
(Essential) -Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues.
(Essential) -Be sensitive to the needs and expectations of students, faculty, staff and administrators.
(Essential) -Maintain a high degree of confidentiality with regards to any and all information as a direct or indirect result of job responsibilities/job functions.

-Exposure to dust and chemical/fumes of the trade.
Special Job Features: -Work hours are determined by the College and are subject to change.
-Academic year and summer hours are established to meet the needs of the department and the College.
-Will be required to work during delays and snow closure days that may fall on scheduled workdays.
-Will be required to work overtime on short notice to include evenings, weekends, special events and call ins at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor.
-Overtime and weekend hours will be necessary for emergencies and/or snow removal and to meet the needs of the College.
-This position is subject to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Regulations.
